Iranian Researchers Produce Heat, Sound Insulating Blankets
According to the website of the National Nano Headquarters of Iran, Hassan Bargzin, the director general of the company described thermal insulation blankets containing silica aerogel as one of the products of his company and added, “Prior to this, the production capacity of thermal insulation blanket containing silica aerogel in the company was 500 square meters per month, but we are increasing the capacity to 2,500 square meters per month.”
He described that reduction in energy consumption in buildings as one of the company's research priorities and added that other insulation materials such as glass wool are not used in construction industry anymore because they take too much space and cause environmental problems.
“But these nanoscale thermal insulators produced in this company, which are not as thick as fiberglass can meet the needs of contractors,” he noted.
“As thick as 6 to 10 mm, this insulation can reduce energy consumption by 45%. Other insulation blankets last less than half an hour at 1,100 temperature in fire, which is not good at all. But, this insulation can last for several hours at a temperature of 1,100 degrees,” the researcher noted.
He went on to say that insulating against sound is anoher other advantage of the nano insulating blanket.
