“For years, water, electricity and gas companies have been sending agents to take notes from the meters installed at homes which had a high possibility of human errors,” said Morteza Maqsoudi, the managing director of a knowledge-based company.

He noted that development of the software and hardware  has helped narrowing down time-consuming procedure, adding that his company’s product is now used in several Iranian provinces.

“The hardware can easily read numbers on the meter, and the software which is installed on the agent’s cellphone receives information from the device and transfers it to the phone and the central server of the operator company without human intervention,” Maqsoudi said.

In another development in this field, a group of engineers at a technological company in Iran designed and produced special ultrasonic meters that can accurately measure the consumption of water on a daily, monthly and yearly basis.

“The ultrasonic water meters are used to monitor the amount of water consumed at houses,” said Amir-Hossein Kimiayee Assadi, the manager of the technological company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of Hamedan province in Western Iran.

He added that the advantage of these ultrasonic meters against mechanical ones is their high measurement accuracy, and stated, “These meters also enjoy low depreciation and since they are equipped with IOT (Internet of Things) technology, they can communicate with the user through the cellphone software.”

“These meters are capable of providing data to the user on the daily, monthly and yearly consumption of water in the house,” Kimiayee Assadi said.
