Ghalibaf Threatens Hormuz Strait Closure Amid Ongoing US Port Blockade
Ghalibaf’s remarks came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire in Lebanon and during a temporary halt in tensions between Tehran and Washington. However, US President Donald Trump signaled a tougher stance, stating that restrictions on Iranian ports would remain in place until a comprehensive agreement is reached.
Responding on social media platform X, Ghalibaf criticized the US president’s statements, claiming that multiple assertions made within a short time frame were entirely inaccurate. He argued that such rhetoric had neither secured victory in past confrontations nor would it yield results in ongoing negotiations.
The Iranian speaker emphasized that continued economic pressure could directly impact maritime access, warning that the Strait of Hormuz’s status would not remain unchanged under persistent blockade conditions.
He further noted that any transit through the waterway would be subject to predefined routes and require authorization from Iranian authorities. According to Ghalibaf, decisions regarding the Strait’s operation would be determined by developments on the ground rather than public statements or online discourse.
Highlighting the role of information warfare, he added that attempts to shape public opinion would not influence the Iranian population. He also pointed to recent remarks by Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei as a reliable source of information on the status of negotiations.
