Iran Tables Proposals in Geneva to Gauge US Commitment to Diplomacy
Citing informed sources, the correspondent reported that the Iranian delegation presented initiatives intended to eliminate what Tehran views as US justifications regarding the nature of its peaceful nuclear program. The proposals are said to serve as a practical test of America’s willingness to seriously pursue diplomacy.
No specifics have been disclosed about the substance of the proposals. They were conveyed to the US side through Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who is acting as mediator in the indirect negotiations.
The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US team includes envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Thursday’s meeting in Geneva represents the third round of talks between Tehran and Washington this month. The discussions are focused on addressing disputes surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities and exploring pathways toward sanctions relief.
Prior to leaving Tehran for the latest round of negotiations, Araghchi expressed cautious optimism. In an interview with India Today, he stated that “a fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable” with the United States.
