Araghchi, Al Busaidi Hold Key Consultations in Geneva Ahead of Iran–US Talks
The meeting took place just hours after Araghchi and his delegation arrived in the Swiss city, underscoring the diplomatic momentum ahead of Thursday’s anticipated talks between Iran and the United States.
According to diplomatic sources, discussions between Araghchi and Badr Al Busaidi centered on final coordination efforts prior to negotiations with US representatives. The Iranian foreign minister reportedly outlined key components of a potential framework agreement addressing Tehran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions.
Araghchi is scheduled to engage in indirect negotiations on Thursday with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The talks will once again be mediated by Oman, continuing a format established in earlier rounds.
This upcoming session marks the third round of indirect negotiations between the two sides. Previous meetings were held on February 6 in Muscat and February 17 in Geneva, both facilitated by Al Busaidi.
The renewed diplomatic push comes amid heightened tensions. Washington has expanded its military footprint in areas surrounding Iran and has warned of possible military measures if diplomatic efforts fail to yield an agreement.
Ahead of his departure from Tehran, Abbas Araghchi expressed cautious optimism about the prospects for a breakthrough. In an interview with India Today, he stated that “a fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable,” signaling Tehran’s readiness to pursue a negotiated resolution.
