Iran Signals Readiness for “Fair” Nuclear Talks, Warns Against External Pressures
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Larijani said Tehran has increased its preparedness for discussions but denied submitting any formal response to U.S. demands, noting that exchanges of views are still ongoing. He stressed that regional countries support reaching a political solution to the nuclear issue.
Larijani reaffirmed Iran’s acceptance of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitoring under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, highlighting the need for uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes such as cancer treatment. “It is unrealistic to ask a country that has mastered this technology to reduce it to zero,” he said.
On regional security, Larijani insisted Iran’s missile program is separate from its nuclear activities and cannot be part of the negotiations. He accused Israel of destabilizing the region, citing its recent attack on Hamas officials in Qatar, and warned neighboring countries to remain vigilant.
Regarding Gaza and Lebanon, Larijani stated that while Israel has caused widespread destruction, it has failed to eliminate Hamas, and that Hezbollah has regained capabilities to confront Israel.
He also highlighted Iran’s strategic partnerships with China and Russia, describing their UN Security Council support as a reflection of political alignment based on mutual interests.
Larijani concluded by praising Qatar’s mediating role and reaffirming Tehran’s readiness for any scenario, asserting that past escalations have not favored those who initiated conflicts.
