Iran Reaffirms Support for Syria, Urges Israel to End Occupation of Golan
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session on “The situation in the Middle East: Syria,” Iran’s Permanent Representative, Amir SaeEd Iravani, emphasized that Israel’s ongoing occupation and military operations in Syrian territory pose a direct threat to regional peace and stability.
Iravani highlighted the continued humanitarian, economic, and security challenges faced by Syrians, despite recent transitional measures by Damascus. He voiced Iran’s support for UN efforts aimed at alleviating suffering and fostering stability, stressing that any international role must reinforce a Syrian-owned, Syrian-led, and inclusive political process while respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Addressing developments in north-eastern Syria, Iravani noted progress in the integration of areas previously controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, calling for orderly, peaceful implementation and protection of civilians, including minority groups. He also underscored the ongoing threat from ISIS/Da’esh and the urgent need to secure detention centers and repatriate foreign fighters in line with international obligations.
On the humanitarian front, Iravani urged the international community to move beyond emergency relief toward reconstruction, economic recovery, and long-term stabilization, ensuring that all Syrians benefit.
Reiterating Iran’s stance, he affirmed: “The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to support a stable, unified, and secure Syria, free from terrorism, foreign occupation, and external interference,” while urging the Security Council to hold Israel accountable for violations of Syrian sovereignty.
