In a recent interview with local media, Eslami reaffirmed that nuclear weapons are not part of Iran’s military doctrine, noting that the country’s Supreme Leader has issued a fatwa prohibiting their use. “Strategically, given our current capabilities, nuclear weapons are unnecessary. Iran can protect itself and maintain effective deterrence without them,” he stated.

Eslami also discussed Iran’s ongoing collaboration with Russia on the construction of new nuclear power plants in Bushehr. He confirmed that fuel for the Bushehr facility has already been supplied this year, emphasizing the continued development of Iran’s civilian nuclear infrastructure.

The remarks underscore Tehran’s position that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, while simultaneously assuring that the country possesses the means to safeguard its national security.
