According to Western intelligence insiders, officials from several European countries are hesitant to share information openly with the US, fearing that it could be exploited in an attempt to assert control over Greenland. One senior NATO source described the situation as “very disruptive” and unprecedented in his experience, recalling prior close cooperation with American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A UK intelligence source echoed these concerns, noting that Britain’s status as a primary US intelligence partner has diminished, now being viewed by Washington as “just part of Europe.”

Tensions escalated after President Trump announced plans last Saturday to impose a 10% tariff on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1, with an increase to 25% in June unless the US acquired Greenland.

Trump has repeatedly argued that Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, should be under US control. Danish and Greenlandic authorities have firmly rejected any attempts to seize the island, emphasizing their expectation that their territorial sovereignty will be respected.
