Iran Uncovers Over 22 Million Tons of New Gold Ore, Boosting National Reserves by More Than 10%
This newly discovered volume is estimated to account for more than 10 percent of Iran’s total proven gold reserves.
The most significant contributor to this increase is the discovery of the Takht gold mine in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, in Southeastern Iran, which contains 16.2 million tons of proven gold ore reserves.
This new discovery highlights Iran’s untapped mineral potential and could, in the near future, represent an important step toward increasing gold production and extraction in the country.
According to experts, given the newly discovered reserves and Iran’s existing exploration potential, the need to expand exploration activities nationwide—particularly in lesser-known regions—has become more pressing than ever.
By the end of the Iranian year 1402 (March 2024), Iran’s total gold reserves had reached 227 million tons of gold ore and 269 tons of contained gold, accounting for approximately 0.44 percent of global gold reserves.
