Iranian Knowlege-Based Firm Grows Spirulina for Many Uses

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian knowledge-based company produces Spirulina as a food or food additive which increases IQ and the immune system resistance.

“Our company is a knowledge-based company called Behfar Azarbaijan Zist Andishan. In this company, we grow blue-green algae Spirulina,” Anwar Izadi, the managing director of Behfar Azarbaijan Zist Andishan (biosciences) company told ANA on the sidelines of the Asreh Omid Event.

“There are human and animal grades of Spirulina. In our company we are growing algae in human grade,” Izadi also said.

“We have used Spirulina in company to produce air purifiers.” The biologist added.

 “This alga has been recognized by the World Health Organization as a food while it is used to produce medicine and also in food industries, cosmetics and health products, as well as animal feed and in poultry and aquatic animals, air purification, water purification, etc. industries,” he pointed out.

“Iran is one of the importers of this product,” he said, adding that Spirulina is a great sources of protein, different vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is very beneficial to the human body.

“This nutrient prevents getting sick, increases the resistance of the body's immune system by 13 times and the IQ in children by 20%, cures cold liver and type 2 of diabetes. It is also helpful to cure cardiovascular diseases and can facilitate the treatment of brain tumors.”

The Behfar Azarbaijan Zist Andishan managing director further said that they are now growing and producing the algae in mass production level.

He went on to say they have received help from Islamic Azad University and that the East Azarbaijan branch of the university has given them a greenhouse and also loan to establish their business there.

Izadi further expressed hope that the company will receive further hope from the university and others during the Asreh Omid Event to develop their business.

“Currently, we produce an average of 500 kilos of algae per month, and if we attract investors, we can increase this volume to more than one ton,” he further added.

“In addition to algae cultivation, we have started our activity on industrial effluents and can provide good solutions for factories discharges. One of the big problems of factories is polluted effluents, and by producing and selling air purifiers, we can tackle this big problem well. In this regard, negotiations have been held with Tehran municipality and we plan to install an air purifier in the capital,” the biologic company’s head concluded.

The national Asreh Omid Event was held in late May in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams and startups.
