Producing Wooden Wedge to Repair Teeth at Very Low Price
“These wedges are produced in two classic and anatomical models, we have produced the classic wedge device, which is wooden. We have produced and are currently waiting for permission from the Ministry of Health,” Iman Zehtab, the Managing Director of Pars Tajhiz Damavand Company, which operates with the support of the Khomeyni Shahr Islamic Azad University, told ANA in an interview on the sidelines of the Asreh Omid Event.
“The anatomical model is not produced in Iran at all and is imported at a really high price. Therefore, we are designing a device that will enable us to produce it domestically instead of importing,” he added.
Regarding the uses of their product, the Managing Director of Pars Tejhiz Damavand said “During tooth restoration and filling, a matrix strip and a steel strip are fit around the tooth and protect the tooth from breaking its walls. This strip that is tied around the tooth has a cylindrical shape. In order to adjust the distance between the teeth, two wedges are placed, one in front of the tooth and the other behind it, so that they can adjust the gap between the teeth and prevent food from getting stuck there.”
In response to the question if there are other products like theirs, he said, “Currently, there is a low-quality and fake model available on online websites for $58 a pack. However, according to the dentists and the authorities whom we obtained approval for our license, the wedges produced by our company are standard, and these people emphasized that these wedges remind them of the wedges of 20 to 30 years ago, which are not currently imported. The quality of our products is extremely high.”
Pointing out that they not only wil produce the wedge but they also had designed the machines to produce them in their company, Zahtab said, “We checked the Swiss classic wedge and finally we designed the device and made it exactly like theirs. We did the same for anatomical wedges, The device is designed and we are in the process of manufacturing it.”
In response to the question about the total cost of each wedge, he noted, “The total cost in our workshop is 30,000 Tomans, depending on the number of 20 or 30 pieces in each pack.”
The managing director of Pars Tajhiz Damavand Company considered attending Asreh Omid Event as an opportunity and said that the Islamic Azad University has promised them that it will support them in terms of giving them a place to work. “We have rented a workshop on our own and we only have one office in the university. We want universities to invest in our product in accordance with the right terms and conditions because we have the ability to do bigger things.”
He added that the Islamic Azad University need to increase the help to the knowledge-based companies to solve their problems in line with the goal of solving the country's problems.
In relation to the barriers they have faced in order to obtain a license (permission), he said, “Although Isfahan Food and Drug Organization has cooperated perfectly with us, Tehran Medical Equipment Department does not introduce a standard based on which the Isfahan Food and Drug Administration can grant us a license. The Food and Drug Organization of Isfahan insists that we have to go to Dental Equipment Department, and this issue has delayed acquiring the license.”
The national Asreh Omid Event was held in late May in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams and startups.
