Iranian Nanotechnology Company Produces Bags, Backpacks with Antibacterial Properties

A private sector company in Iran has succeeded in producing bags and backpacks that, by using antibacterial fibrous geomembranes containing nanoparticles, can prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria and unpleasant odors in these widely used products.
The nanoparticles used in the fibers of this product have created effective antibacterial properties. Based on tests conducted in accordance with the Iranian National Standard No. 10900, the antibacterial activity of these bags against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) bacteria was reported to be 2.15 and 2.17, respectively, both exceeding the minimum acceptable value (2) and indicating high efficiency in inhibiting the growth of pathogens.
These features not only increase the health of users, but also prevent the bags from getting smelly in humid and high-traffic conditions; a common problem specially in travel and mountaineering bags.
Also, the durability and high resistance of this product make it a suitable choice for heavy-duty and long-term applications, including office bags, laptop backpacks, travel and nature tourism.
In a relevant development in March, experts at an Iranian company had also managed to use nanotechnology to produce biodegradable plastic bags with a short lifespan.
“We produce biodegradable nano plastic bags that decompose in less than five years. Also, smart antibacterial bags, bags for storing agricultural and food products, and stretch and heat-resistant bags are among our other products,” said Mohammad Ali Valian, the managing director of Novin Polymer Sabz Nano Aras Company.
“We have succeeded in receiving the Nanoscale Certificate and the Green Label of Aras Free Zone. We have also obtained several ISO standards and European CE standards, which have been essential for exporting our products,” he added.
“Nanotechnology has made us to create properties such as antibacterial and biodegradability in our products. Also, heat resistance, weight reduction, and increased durability are other features of our nano-based products,” Valian said.
