“By recognizing and understanding the necessity of digital transformation and smartization in today's world, Islamic Azad University’s Boroujerd branch has taken effective and impressive steps to pioneer the development of new technologies and relying on its technical and scientific advantages, has provided the conditions for creating the necessary infrastructure and is launching a specialized laboratory for artificial intelligence and data mining,” Mohammad Reza Moazzami Goudarzi told ANA.

This laboratory will serve students and researchers with advanced equipment, including graphics processing servers, cloud systems and modern software, and these facilities will create the ability to conduct applied research in various fields like image processing, natural language processing and recommender systems,” he added.

Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Hossein Afshin announced in February that the AI has passed the theoretical stage and now is in the operational phase.

“The AI has been developed in Iran since 2010. This technology was first introduced in self-driving cars, medical guidance systems and traffic management, and today, having passed the theoretical stage, it has entered industrial and operational applications,” Afshin said.

Noting that artificial intelligence is no longer a purely academic subject, he said, “There was a time when only theoretical discussions were raised about artificial intelligence, but today the country is facing a new generation of operational projects in the fields of oil, health, smart cities and industry.”

“This change of direction is the result of targeted investment and the serious entry of creative engineers into this field,” Afshin said.
