Nanocomposites Good Opportunity for Flourishing of Iranian Industries

TEHRAN (ANA)- The nanocomposites market, specially in the polymer sector, can play a key role in advancing Iran’s industry and global competitiveness.
News ID : 8711

The 89% share of nanocomposites in the total market shows that nanotechnology in Iran has been used most to improve the structural properties of materials. These compounds are produced by adding nanoparticles to substrates such as metal, polymer or ceramic to significantly improve properties like strength, chemical resistance, conductivity or thermal properties.

The increasing demand for polymer nanocomposites is due to special properties like low weight, excellent resistance to environmental conditions and cost-effective production costs. Also, this technology can be expanded on an industrial scale and is experiencing high growth due to its wide applications in parent industries.

Polymer nanocomposites with a market share of 86% are the largest subgroup of this market, as they have major applications in UPVC pipes and fittings, biodegradable garbage bags and water storage tanks.

Ceramic nanocomposites with a market share of 2% have a high a in the concrete industry, dental composites and combustion chambers.

Metal nanocomposites with a market share of 1% have important applications like the production of rebar containing nanocomposite powder, spot welding electrode tips and welding nozzles.

Meantime, nanomixtures (mixture of nanomaterials), which have a market share of 11%, despite their smaller share, include a variety of applications.

Iran has made nanotechnology a priority in recent years, achieving remarkable success. The nanotechnology research website StatNano has ranked Iran as fourth in the world in nanotechnology publications.

The number of scientific articles is deemed a significant parameter for measuring and comparing scientific development, according to StatNano that provides the global and regional ranking of the main indicators of nano science, technology, and industry. China was atop the rankings, followed by the United States and India.

International entities have acknowledged Iranian contributions to the field. In February 2022, the American Institute of Physics published a scholarly article on the use of nanomaterials for cancer treatment by Iranian scientists.

Among Iran's nanotechnology products, 42% are related to construction, 17% to petroleum and 13% to automobile manufacturing.

Nanotechnology refers to industrial production from atomic and molecule-sized matter. It leverages the properties of nanoparticles into a wide range of applications spanning a vast number of industries. Key accomplishments in the field of nanotechnology can be seen across a wide variety of engineering, energy and medical sectors.
