Iranian Academic Presents Idea of Pistachio Waste Processing
Ali Masroori, a faculty member of the Islamic Azad University said the idea was presented during the event and was welcomed by visitors.
In countries that are developed in terms of industry and technology, processing industries are one of the leading sources of income, he explained.
For the time being, pistachio holds a great share of the country’s non-oil exports. Pistachio is cultivated and harvested in many parts of Iran.
Pistachio wastes, including fresh and dry skins, are usually left in nature without being used, while fresh pistachio skin can be used for producing jam.
In addition to having high amounts of nutrients, it also has therapeutic properties. On the other hand, dry pistachio skin can be used in industries such as MDF production and compressed coal production.
Asreh Omid Event in which Masroori participated was held with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams, and startups.
Iran exported different types of pistachios to 75 countries in the last Persian calendar year (March 21, 2021, to March 20, 2022).
The Iranian customs administration announced in April that the country exported 135,322 tons of pistachios worth $914,427,826 in the period.
Spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said that 115,557 tons out of the total pistachio exports were fresh raw pistachios with shells worth $696,043,124.
China, India, Russia, Iraq, and Kyrgyzstan were the top five purchasers of Iranian pistachios, he said.
