Aeroponics Presented by Iranian Expert at IAU Event
Aeroponics is the practice of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of any substrate.
Ali Asghar Bagheri, the expert who presented the idea, told ANA that aeroponics makes it possible to create a greenhouse and cultivation place in any place.
Aeroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead, roots are suspended in the air and irrigated with a nutrient-dense mist.
This differs from hydroponic systems where plant roots are regularly submerged in a nutrient-rich solution.
In aeroponics, the roots have greater access to oxygen, which results in healthier plants, significantly faster crop growth rates, and increased yields.
The IAU research center intends to create the aeroponics system by indigenizing it in an industrial format, he noted.
For instance, a 1,000 square meters greenhouse can produce crops as much as three hectares of a farm, at about 15 billion rials ($50,000).
The low amount of required water and energy, the possibility of creating a greenhouse in any place and with any weather conditions, and the minimum manpower have reduced the end price of products.
Asreh Omid Event was held in late May in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams, and startups.
Iran’s technological priorities have been specified within the framework of a plan, based on which the country's knowledge-based companies have been equipped.
The country has been experiencing a threefold growth of knowledge-based companies since the beginning of the current year (starting March 21, 2022), a report said.
