Academic Official: Iran Ranks 12th in World in Biotechnology
“Biotechnology, as an interdisciplinary science, has played a very important role in scientific and industrial transformation and development and can be particularly effective in accelerating the economic and social progress of developing countries,” Rahbarizadeh said.
She added that the number of companies active in the field of biotechnology in Iran has more than doubled over the past decade, which indicates the growing trend of this industry and the country's increasing capabilities in this field.
“Iran has been able to achieve a significant position in the global rankings in this area and ranks 12th now in the world in producing scientific and research articles in the field of biotechnology,” Rahbarizadeh said.
Head of Iran’s biotechnology association had said last year that the country’s researchers succeeded in producing different types of biotechnology medicine and exporting them to foreign states.
Sirous Zeynali made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the 5th International Conference and 13th National Biotechnology Conference in Iran.
“Although biotechnology is younger than the pharmaceutical industry, today we see that the largest part of Iran’s medical exports is biotechnology-based drugs produced by knowledge-based companies,” he said.
Iran has taken wide strides in development of biotechnological sciences.
