Sohail Sadat Safavi, one of the managers of the knowledge-based company told ANA that their companies produces ‘Pishtaz’ advanced industrial protective. “Advanced digital protection relays have advanced telecommunication protocols (such as DNP3 and IEC61850) that are used in the ultra-high distribution substations. These relays are used in industries such as oil, gas, petrochemical, steel, cement and iron smelting.”

“The purpose of producing this product is to locally produce advanced protective relays for ultra-high substations and industries in order to reduce dependence on similar foreign-made products,” he said.

“In electric power distribution, various errors may occur, such as lightning striking the lines, ruptures in transmission lines, and the occurrence of a shortcoming inside the equipment, and if these errors are not detected and resolved in the due time, it will cause the spread of errors and fire breakout and serious financial losses,” he continued to explain.

“The purpose of protective relay operation is to prevent the spread of errors in the shortest possible time... Protective relays must operate very quickly and accurately and have very high reliability, which requires reliable, accurate hardware and the use of complicated protective algorithms,” Safavi also said.

“By using ARM series processors and very accurate measurement circuits in the hardware part of this relay and implementing complicated protection algorithms in the software part, Pishtaz relays currently enjoy having the same technology as the most advanced relays in the world,” the company’s representative said.

“Pishtaz protective relay is also the first domestically-produced relays that supports IEC-61850 protocol. It should be noted that the IEC61850 standard is related to the communication protocol of protective relays, which the research and development team of our company has successfully employed in this protective relay and has obtained all the necessary standards from the relevant authorities. In this relay, all types of encryption protocols and cyber security considerations have been observed,” he went on to say.

“In recent years, with the growing trend in terms of the Internet and its entry into industries, protection and control equipment have acquired the capability to communicate, connect and be monitored from long distance,” continued Safavi.

Further talking about the advantages of Pishtaz protective relay, the company’s official said, “This protective relay has a fault locator algorithm, which can be used to determine the exact location of the fault that occurred in the ultra-high distribution lines. This accelerates the process of restoring the power supply process and reduced the time of power outage.”

“Since this protective relay is completely designed and produced inside the country, not only they provide 24-hour support, they also fully comply with the requirements of Iran's power grids. Moreover, it is possible to have multiple updates to meet the needs of different users,” Safavi concluded.
