A multiphase flow meter is a device used to measure the individual phase flow rates of constituent phases in a given flow (for example in oil and gas industry) where oil, water and gas mixtures are initially co-mingled together during the oil production processes.

Eissa Noveiri, the head of Research and Development of Arvandan Oil & Gas Company and the executive director of the project to construct the multiphase flow meter said that the first portable multiphase flow meter was made in Iran in a joint project between Arvandan Oil & Gas Company and a knowledge-based company and it was unveiled at the recent 28th Tehran Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition.

“In continuation of the project to construct the first multiphase flow meter, the construction of a four-inch frame of reference device, the repair and reconstruction of eight MPFM (multiphase flow meter) devices in the Darkhoin oil field, and the conversion of two devices into a portable device were put on the agenda. The idea of making this device portable is considered innovative and unparalleled Inthe world,” he said.

Noveiri further explained that why domestically producing the MPFM was critically important for Iran’s oil industry, saying, “Due to the use of advanced technology and nuclear technology in its detectors, these flowmeters were fully banned and could not be imported."

"This project can help increase production, optimize the processing process and save costs in the oil industry," the report by the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science and Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy concluded.
