Iran's IKIA City Mega Project Witnessing 40% of Construction Progress

TEHRAN (ANA)- The CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport City, in the Southern margin of the capital city of Tehran, said that there has been 40% progress in phase 2 of operationalization of the Iranian aviation mega project.

Speaking in a press conference,, Saeed Chalandari, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport, city said that the phase 2 of the development of the airport city is one of the major measures taken in the country's aviation industry in line with the people’s interest.

“Imam Airport Khomeini International Airport is the most important and largest airport in the country built over an area of ​​14,000 hectares, which includes three complexes: Salam (Greeting) Terminal, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2,” he said.

The CEO added that “The phase 2 of the executive project of the airport is being carried out in the form of a consortium consisting of Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarter and a Chinese company.”

He said that the operationalization of the project has witnessed 40% progress so far.

“In 1400 (March 21, 2021-22), four million passengers, in 1401 (March 21, 2022-23), 6.6 million passengers, in 1402(March 21, 2023-24), 7.6 million passengers, and from the beginning of this year 1403 (March 21, 2024) to date, July 7, 2.5 million passengers travelled via this airport, which compared to last year this time it shows a 203% growth,” Chalandari said.

“The airport recorded 31,400 flights in 1400, which increased to 45,000 in 1401, 49,200 in 1402, and 16,000 flights until today (July 7) from the beginning of this year (almost three month and half),” he went on to say.
