According to a report by the Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council (INIC), Patent Europe has not registered any inventions related to nanotechnology from Iran.

It added that 11,179 articles related to nanotechnology by Iranian researchers were indexed in WoS in 2023, which is equivalent to 4.6% of all nanotechnology articles published in 2023.

With this share of Nano publications, Iran ranked fifth in the world, dropping one place compared with the previous year.

Also, by the end of 2023, Iran had published a total of 354 patents related to nanotechnology in the US and European patent offices.

The number of Iranian nano patents in the United States Patent Office (USPTO) in 2023 was 8 patents. In addition, in the current year, 7 more nanotechnology inventions are being registered in this office.

Therefore, Iran's rank in patents registered in the USPTO in 2023 is 27th. In the European Patent Office (EPO), no invention related to nanotechnology has been registered in 2023.

Earlier reports also said that Iran had ranked fifth in the world in the field of developing international standards of nanotechnology after the US, Japan, Britain and South Korea.

Standardization is an effective type of infrastructure as, due to the policies of and measures taken by the INIC, Iran is recognized as a leading country in standardization of nanotechnology.
Development of national and international standards undoubtedly supports expansion of the market and trade, in addition to obtaining customer satisfaction.
Given Iran’s export of nanotechnology products to the global markets, the development of standards by Iranian experts facilitates the presence of Iran-made products in target markets.
