Iranian Researcher Produces Organic Pastille with New Tastes
Leila GhiasiFriz said on the sidelines of the exhibition "Age of Hope" (Asreh Omid Event) held and run by the Islamic Azad University in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, that in South Khorasan province, where barberry and jujube are produced by farmers as their main products, the farmers were deprived of the revenues from selling their products due to the presence of dealers.
"Due to the droughts, jujube trees become sick and lost their marketability, while this product was sold in their original form in Birjand, the capital of the northeastern province, and it was not processed, so in order to force out the dealers from the market, we came up with the idea of using technology in relation to the strategic products of our province and produced jujube and barberry pastilles," she added.
“We were going to produce a pastille that all the people in the society can use it, including people with diabetes, who cannot use ordinary pastilles available in the market because of the sucrose in them. By eating this pastille, people can benefit from what is in the barberry and jujube, which are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants,” GhiasiFriz further explained.
She went on to say that majority of the pastilles in the market is made of gelatin, and our pastille does not contain any gelatin at all, and it uses natural ingredients, jujube and barberry puree, and other ingredients that are natural sweeteners.
The researcher, who is from the Islamic Azad University (IAU)-South Khorasan branch, also said that the Age of Hope exhibition laid the necessary ground for gaining support from the Islamic Azad University.
She also said that the scientific festival also gives them the opportunity to see similar products and gain new ideas from the other participants.
Islamic Azad University's "second step of revolution" under the title of Asreh Omid Event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 01, 2022 to exhibit new achievements, equipments and products in the technological and innovation arenas in line with opening new windows towards strengthening the idea of creating ground for knowledge-based businesses at the 40th anniversary of establishment of the Islamic Azad University.
