Mohammadreza Garmsiri told ANA reporter on the sidelines of the Asreh Omid scientific and technological exhibition held by Islamic Azad University in Tehran that he and his colleagues at the Islamic Azad University - Sirjan branch have developed a smart mining system.

Garmsiri said he and other professors at the university with their expertise in programming, intelligence artificial, mining engineering, industrial engineering and computer programming have developed the smart mining system for the first time in Iran, adding, this system has been completely developed from design stage to operational stage inside the country by the faculty members of the Sirjan Azad University.

“During the past 16 years, this academic center has had an effective relationship with the major mining industries in Kerman province, and now it is working on at least two projects in the mining industries of this province, such as the National Copper Industry Company of Iran, mining holding MIDHCO, GolGohar Mining & Industrial Company, Gohrazmin Iron and Steel Company.”

“The focus of all projects is on increasing productivity in industries and they are divided into several categories including projects aimed at designing and localizing parts and equipment, optimizing processes, technical studies, simulation, modeling processes all within the framework of smart mining,” the researcher noted.

“In mining engineering, there are many diverse departments that have the ability to improve and increase productivity. In the past years, numerous projects with the objectives of designing and localizing parts and equipment, optimizing processes and technical studies and simulating and modeling processes have been carried out by the Islamic Azad University - Sirjan branch.

In these projects, we have been working on reducing consumption of chemicals in various companies, reduction in water consumption, designing advanced water recovery systems, localizing equipment that is not possible to import into the country due to sanctions, preparation of technical and economic plans to increase factories’ capacities, and finally, the creation of an educational system for training, competency assessment and promotion of employees,” he added.

“We need to use new methods and approaches to reduce the production costs,” Garmsiri went on to say.

“Among these methods, we can mention the method ‘from mine to mill’, geo-metallurgy, advanced control systems, knowledge discovery and smart systems. To achieve these methods, all information and data need to be recorded, cleaned, processed and presented in the form of a smart system,” Garmsiri added.

The national Asreh Omid Event was held in late May in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams and startups.
