Comoros Joins WTO for Economic Growth
According to the WTO's Deputy Director-General, Zhang Xiangchen, the accession of the Comoros to the WTO would enable the country to achieve accelerated economic growth, better living conditions, quality jobs, as well as long-term stability and peace, stressing that "this is a historic moment that gives the organization a truly global and diversified dimension."
President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani expressed his pride in this major achievement, describing this accession as a "promising partnership" and pledging to continue working with the WTO to achieve the results of these negotiations.
According to a press release from the Comorian Presidency, WTO membership will enable the Comoros to pursue its objectives of sustainable development and poverty eradication, notably by speeding up investment in strategic sectors such as agriculture, tourism, the environment, the maritime sector and the digital economy. This integration into the global economy is also part of Azali's ambition and desire to make the Comoros an emerging country by 2030, it added.
