Iran Replacing Foreign Surgical Drills, Saws with Domestically-Made Ones
“These surgical instruments and devices were supplied through imports so far, specially from the US, Germany and Switzerland. We had encountered many problems in this area, and our knowledge-based company resolved the problem forever by making these products,” said Khosro Afshar, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.
He explained that his company’s products and their sterilizable attachments are resistant to moisture and temperature and can be sterilized by steam and pressure (autoclave) in the shortest time, adding that handpieces produced by the company are rechargeable for ease of use.
“The special physical feature of saws and blades produced by our company is the number and angle of the ribs. The back and forth movement of the saw at a certain frequency causes the least pain, stress and injury in the patient's body,” Afshar underlined.
Iran is currently exporting medical equipment to 63 countries, including the European, Asian, and South American states, Director General of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) for Medical Equipment Affairs Rouhollah Mazinani said last year.
Earlier, in April, an Iranian company had managed to manufacture a surgical stapler that is used instead of sutures to close skin wounds during surgery.
A stapler or surgical stapler is a device that is used to fasten a wound by placing surgical staple clips on the skin or internal tissues.
Surgical staplers are used for transection, resection, and the creation of anastomosis.
Staplers have a high accuracy and speed of operation in closing the wounds of patients, especially in internal surgeries such as stomach and intestines surgery.
They also have much better results in operations that are in the cosmetic area.
Staplers can reduce surgical time, tissue trauma, anesthesia time, and the possibility of infection.
