Iran 2nd Largest Exporter of Pistachio to EU
The EU Statistical Office (Eurostat) said in its latest report that Iran exported €92 million worth of pistachios in 2023.
Iran's pistachio exports to the European Union in 2023 witnessed a 17% decrease compared to the year before. Iran had exported more than €111 million pistachios to the 27-member bloc in 2022, the report added.
In 2023, Iran exported mainly pistachio nuts to the bloc, the report said, adding that the country exported €65 million and €27 million of pistachio nuts and shells to Europe in 2023, respectively.
Among other member states of the union, Germany was the main buyer of Iranian pistachios in 2023 with importing €49 million, followed by Italy with €7.0 million and Spain with €5.0 million.
According to the report, the United States with €640 million of pistachio products, was the top exporter of pistachio products to the European Union in 2023 ahead of Iran, as the second largest exporter.
However, the US exports to the bloc also dropped from €756 in 2022 to €640 million in 2023, indicating a decrease of 15%.
