Iranian Experts Use Nanotechnology to Manufacture Energy Efficient Radiators

TEHRAN (ANA)- Specialists at a knowledge-based company in Iran succeeded in using nanotechnology to make radiators which can reduce energy and water consumption to a high extent.

“For several years, we have been using the coating containing zirconium nanoparticles in the radiators, which has increased the productivity. By using the coating, for instance, the amount of paint consumption in production has decreased, and it has also had significant positive environmental effects,” said Vahid Esmayeeli, the managing director of the knowledge-based ‘Tash Radiator’ company.

Noting that using nanotechnology has increased the quality and durability of his company’s products and reduced the amount of water and energy consumption, he said, “Before using the zirconium nanocoating, the radiators produced by Tash company were categorized in class C in terms of energy loss, but with using the Iran-developed technology and by reducing the thickness of the coating and paint on the radiator, the products of our company managed to reach the class B in energy consumption.”

Esmayeeli said that at present, 40% of his company’s products are exported to 8 countries, adding that Russia, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan are among the exports destinations of the Iran-made radiators.

For several years, the use of phosphate or chromate coatings has decreased due to environmental and health concerns, and radiator manufacturers have been encouraged to use coatings using zirconium oxide, titanium oxide, and vanadium oxide.

One of the advantages of zirconium coatings is that there is no need to increase the temperature and water is used in the coating process. It is also possible to apply very thin coatings (in nanometer dimensions) on the surface and obtain properties such as proper adhesion and greater corrosion-proof feature. Accordingly, the rate of corrosion and rusting of radiators is significantly reduced.
