Iranian Knowledge-Based Firm Produces Industrial Lubricant, Detergent Based on Carbon Quantum Dots

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company active in the field of chemistry and nanotechnology succeeded in using carbon quantum dots to produce a new generation of industrial detergents, coatings and lubricants.

“Quantum-based soluble and lubricating oil is one of the various products we have produced in our company. This type of oil can be mixed with water and is used for lubrication and cooling processes by forming an emulsion of oil in water and creating soapy conditions. The fluid can be used in all machining operations like turning, milling, drilling and cutting in which the heat caused by friction destroys the tools,” Ashkan Shomali, the managing director and founder of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

He noted that the quantum nano-based soluble is a suitable alternative to conventional petroleum and mineral-based soluble oils.

“Increasing the lifespan of the lubricant, reducing the waste of soapy water up to 90%, improving the technical performance of the lubricant, reducing the vapors of soapy water, reducing the amount of consumed lubricant, biocompatibility, not causing odors and corruption, antibacterial and antiviral properties, usability for all types of materials, including cast iron, aluminum, etc., good solubility even with high hardness of water, and increasing the life of the cutting tool and parts due to the absence of corrosion and rust are among the advantages and features of this product,” Shomali said.

Carbon quantum dots are used in industrial lubricants due to their ability to transfer heat. The use of this nanostructure reduces the friction of industrial machine parts. Also, this product can be used in fluorescent paints, polishes and industrial cleaners.

In a relevant development last year, another Iranian knowledge-based company had also succeeded in production of lubricant oils for aircraft engine.

"We produce automobile and industrial diesel engine oils, but we did not have engine oil for aviation industry in the country and we decided to produce it to prevent imports, and now we are one of the five companies in the world that can produce it,” said Mohammad Javad Khajeh, the product manager of Pravia company stationed at the incubator center of Islamic Azad University's Science and Research branch.

"HF 510 and SA 500 oils and several other special oils to the aircraft are produced in our company. Lubricant should exist in the engine of an aircraft for its parts to move, and if there is no oil, these parts will rub against each other and cause damage and leave negative impact on the engine,” he added.

Khajeh said that Babolsar and Ramsar airports in Northern Iran have so far purchased the engine oil, adding that talks are underway with Russia for export.
