Researchers in Iran Produce Effective Tools to Protect Financial Networks against Cyber Attacks

In an interview with local Iranian media, Zahra Bagheri, the director of the knowledge-based company said that her firm has more than 20 years of experience in the field of information technology (IT) education and security of infrastructures.

“Since the financial market such as fintech, e-commerce, etc. constitute a large part of the future markets, this knowledge-based company has been established in the Faculty of Commerce and Finance of the University of Tehran (UT),” she said while pointing to the reason why they established the company at the UT’s faculty.

Highlighting the need for security of businesses and financial centers, she said, "Maintaining security has a long history and since the far past, man has used locks and keys to protect its valuable objects, but today locks are offered in different form and security. We see it in the form of hardware equipment such as burglar alarms, CCTV cameras, etc., and in the field of new software products, especially in the field of data and money transfer, we need to provide security in a different way.”

“Our industrial laboratory was set up to maintaine and ensure the security of these equipment and software,” she went on to say. 

“In the UT Business and Finance Faculty, students will keep their relation with financial market in general after their graduation, therefore how to maintain security has to be taught to them,” the researcher added. 

Bagheri stated that some of these graduates can be attracted to her knowledge-based company, adding, “Some of these students will enter this field as experts. Another goal of establishing this knowledge-based company in the UT Faculty of Commerce and Finance is making possible the generation and exchange of knowledge.”

She stated that people who enter the financial markets need to have adequate knowledge about security in cyberspace, adding, “In order to maintain and create security in the virtual and digital space, one must use the necessary tools in terms of security software and hardware. From this perspective, it is necessary for people to acquire the necessary knowledge and familiarity with the basics of security and the ways to keep it.”

“We need security for each and every hardware and software equipment in various industries, from the petrochemical and oil industries to the important monetary, financial and banking networks,” she said, noting, “Our company's mission is to maintain and ensure the security of these industries, therefore, we have offered products that provide partial security and reduce their vulnerabilities.”

The manager of the knowledge-based company said that one of the products is a safe transfer product, explaining, “When you want to introduce a file into the financial network through USB or email and automation, etc., you must be sure about its security.”

“In the online space and the use of the digital platform in all industries, we need a product to intelligently find cyber threats in order to offer cyber security against attacks,” she added.
