Iran Exports over 3.6 Billion Dollars Agricultural Products in 8 Months
Rouhollah Latifi, an official at the Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran said that the country has exported more than 5.1 million tons of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products from March 21 to November 21, the value of which has surpassed $3,671 million.
The figures of exports of Iran’s agricultural products indicate an 11% and a 24% increase in weight and value, respectively, compared to the last year’s corresponding period, he added.
Latifi explained that since 94 percent of the animal, agricultural and food products are exported to the neighbors of Iran, the rural cooperatives can play a leading role in generating wealth for the villagers at the border areas.
He added that big strides have been taken to empower villagers by spurring economic activities, removing trade barriers, promoting exports, and interacting with the people involved in foreign trade.
The head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Promotion Organization of Iran announced in November that the country ranks 13th in production of science in the agricultural fields.
“Iran's rank in scientific productions in the agricultural sector this year ascended from the 15th position to the 13th position at the international level,” Mojtaba Khayyam Nekouyi said.
He underlined the importance of scientific production in the agricultural sector, saying, “We expect the agricultural sector to become knowledge-based, and the most important component of knowledge-based development is the increase in scientific and technological production.”
Noting that 14 Iranian scientists in the agricultural field have been introduced among the world's 2% scientists in terms of scientific productions, Khayyam Nekouyi said, “At present Iran ranks first in scientific production in the Middle East.”
“We expect the growth of scientific and technological productions of universities in the agricultural sector to settle the problems,” he added.
