Iran Registers 761% Growth in Iron Ore Concentrates Exports in First 8 Months

The figures released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) showed that there has been a significant growth in exports of the iron and steel products, especially in the exports of iron ore concentrate, iron ore pellets and sponge iron.

In the first eight months of this year of 1402 (March 21-Novemeber 21, 2023), 1,855 tons of long steel products were exported, which was 23,000 tons less than the same period last year (1,878 ​tons).

The export of flat-rolled steel increased from 265,000 tons in the first eight months of 1401 to 295,000 tons in the same period of this year, which shows an 11.3% increase.

In the 8-month period this year, 2,150,000 tons of steel products were exported, which did not record a significant change compared to 2,143,000 tons exported in the first eight months of last year, indicating only a growth of 0.3%.

Moreover, 4, 908,000 tons of steel ingots were exported, which is 7.4% more than the amount of steel ingots exported in the same period last year. 4, 570,000 tons of steel ingots (intermediate steel) had been exported last year.

According to the figures, export growth in iron ore pellets, sponge iron and iron ore concentrate has set a record.

The export of sponge iron witnessed an increase by 101.7%: While in the first eight months of last year, about 543,000 sponge iron had been exported, this figure reached more than 1 million tons (1,095,000 tons to be precise) in the first eight months of 1402.

The export of iron ore pellets in that 8-month period of 1402 was recorded to be 6, 272,000 tons, indicating a 115% increase compared to the 2, 918,000 tons exported in the first eight months of 1401.

The export of iron ore pellets in the first eight months of this year was the largest export portion of the country's steel and iron products.

Finally, the highest export growth is for iron ore concentrates, which shows a 760.9% growth from 516,000 tons in first eight months of 1401 to 4, 442,000 tons in the same period of this year.
