Iranian Specialists Indigenize Device for Measuring Dimensions, Surface of Tiles

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers of an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in indigenizing a device for measuring the dimensions and surface form of tiles.

“One of the fields we are working on is dimension measurement and surface engineering. We need to obtain the dimensions of tiles after the construction stage since sometimes the tile is not completely square or rectangular; therefore, we made slight changes in the software and hardware parts of the device to measure the exact dimensions of the tile,” said Ali Salehpour, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

Noting that the company’s products are in three general areas, he said, “One of these fields is surface engineering that includes molecular or surface topography, and thickness measurement or roughness measurement in micrometer and nanometer dimensions.”

“We are also active in SI measurement by using the barrier technique and we have SI measurement from long distance and short distance. The far distance means about 80 meters and the short distance includes a few centimeters. This product has recently been exported to the US,” Salehpour said. 

“Another product is the thin film thickness gauge, whose idea was formed in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Tehran and we later turned it into a product. This device is used in 16 universities in Iran and is being exported,” he concluded.

In a relevant development in June, researchers at an Iranian knowledge-based company had also developed a new device to measure contact angle which can increase production in different industries such as oil and food industries.

Researcher at an Iranian knowledge-based company have produced and introduced to the market a device for measuring the contact angle and surface tension (contact angle hysteresis) using the sessile drop method, which is used in various fields from the synthesis of nanomaterials to the food and oil industries.

In the oil industry, the contact angle device is used to measure the effect of adding nanoparticles on the amount of surface tension, contact angle, and ultimately increasing oil extraction.

This device is designed in a way that allows the user to analyze surface tension and contact angle through an online software.

The contact angle measuring device is an important means in the field of nanotechnology, which is used as one of the methods of material surface analysis. Using the device, different surface characteristics of nanomaterials can be detected and measured.
