Iran Records 20% Growth in Automobile Production in 1st Eight Months

TEHRAN (ANA)- An official with Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade reported 20%, 26%, and 41% increases in production of passenger cars, heavy vehicles and motorcycles respectively during the first eight months of the current Iranian year calendar (started on March 21, 2023).

Abdollah Tavakoli Lahijani, the Director General of the Automotive Industry Office at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade presented a report about the auto industry in Iran, saying that the prices of domestically produced and foreign-made imported vehicles that are assembled in Iran have decreased by 28% and 48%, respectively as compared to the start of the year almost eight months ago.

He also said that country’s auto industry recorded a 20% growth in the production of passenger cars, 26% in the production of heavy vehicles and 41% in production of motorcycles during the mentioned period.

The official further said that 883,000 cars were produced in Iran from the beginning of this year of 1402 in the Iranian calendar (March 21, 2023) to the end of the Month of Aban (November 20).

“Last year, 621,000 cars were produced in the country during the same period, which shows a 20% growth compared to the same period last year.”

He said that in the first eight months of this year, as many as 107,000 trucks were produced in the country, showing a 43% growth compared to the same period last year.

Pointing out that in the first 8 months of this year, about 2,300 vans were produced in the country, which shows a 3% growth compared to the same period last year, he added, 25,000 heavy vehicles (lorries, trucks and trailers) were produced in the country, showing 26% growth as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Emphasizing that 394,000 motorcycles were produced in the country during that period, indicating a 41% growth compared to last year, Tavakoli Lahijani added, “Moreover, in the first 8 months of this year, about 205,000 vehicles were produced in the private sector, showing a 80% increase in production compared to the production of 114,000 vehicles by that sector in the same period last year.”

“During that period, the portion of the private sector in total car production in the country was 23%,” he concluded.
