Iran Calls for Drawing Roadmap for Development of Agricultural Research Cooperation with Malaysia

TEHRAN (ANA)- Deputy Iranian agriculture minister has called for the drawing a roadmap for the development of research and educational cooperation in the agricultural field with Malaysia.

The head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Promotion Organization of Iran Mojtaba Khayyam Nekouyi, who is deputy Iranian agriculture minister, made the remarks in a meeting with a delegation from Malaysia to discuss and mull over the contents and sign the memorandum of understanding on research cooperation between his organization and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), a report by the Iranian agriculture ministry said.

In the meeting, the Iranian deputy agriculture minister stressed the need to draw a roadmap for the development of research cooperation and deepening research, education relations in the agricultural field.

Khayyam Nekouyi further said that cooperation would result in an increase in production and development of products in Iran and Malaysia.

The deputy minister of agriculture held the meeting in line with the goal of implementation of the previously signed memorandum of understanding on research cooperation in the field of agriculture between the two countries and said that, “The Iranian has made the necessary preparation for research in the field of cultivation of mangoes, bananas, pineapples and other tropical fruits.”

He further called for taking measures such as the establishment of an office in the Iranian Date and Tropical Fruits Research Institute and an office in the MARDI Horticultural Research Institute, and after equipping these offices with laboratory and administrative facilities, joint executive research offices will be responsible for creating joint research stations in the two countries and will be administered by Iranian and Malaysian experts.

Meanwhile, Khayyam Nekouyi called for the exchange of expertise and experiences in the field of agricultural research, the establishment of a joint research center in the field of citrus fruits, and the establishment of a joint research center for rice in order to exchange experiences and technology between the two countries.

“Iran and Malaysia can expand their cooperation by establishing a joint research center in the field of animal and poultry science to exchange experiences and knowhow and form a joint executive research office in the field of agricultural knowledge management and extension,” the deputy Iranian minister added.

“We have outlined the prospects for establishing joint research centers between the two countries and establishing regional centers with the aim of production, commercialization and sale of agricultural products,” he concluded.
