Relying on the know-how of domestic experts in the fields of photonics, electronics, plasma, analytical chemistry, physics and metallurgy, an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in building the first metal elements analysis instrument (quantometer) in Iran in 2017, a report by the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy said.

This instrument works based on Spark OES analysis method, the report also said, adding, “The device creates a plasma environment in the presence of argon gas and reveals the stimulated spectrum of elements, and it has the capability to analyze various elements in steel, aluminum, copper, zinc and magnesium bases.”

The most important advantages of the quantometer are its customization and flexibility for the analysis of different unusual metal alloys in accordance with the customer's working grades. For example, increasing the measurement range (upper and lower limits) of an element, increasing an unusual element to the working range of a base or a group of considered base alloys is one of the most important advantages of this Iranian company's quantometer device.

Mohammad Bayati, the managing director of the above-mentioned knowledge-based company emphasized that determining the amount of elements that make up a metal piece is one of the important factors in choosing the type and quality of the piece for different applications in the metallurgical industry.

“So far, our factory has succeeded in selling more than 80 quantometers to prominent factories and centers of metallurgical related industries such as casting, alloying, and parts making, etc. inside the country.”

According to him, Quantometer products are generally divided into two categories: Non-ferrous metals or alloys are defined as materials that are not iron-based like their ferrous counterparts while ferrous metals refer to any metal that contains iron.

“Non-ferrous metals (including copper, aluminum, zinc, zamak, and magnesium bases) and ferrous metal bases (including steel, cast iron, and steel bases). It is also possible to produce a quantometer instrument with the capability to analyze elements in several different bases, as well as the possibility of customizing the purchase (increasing the measurement range of elements, increasing the element) and analyzing samples in the favored range in different bases of non-ferrous and ferrous metals,” Bayati said.

“This instrument has been manufactured and offered to the market for the first time by this company in Iran,” he further noted.

“Some quantometers can only analyze metals of one base. But the quantometers manufactured by our company, is possible to place several bases of non-ferrous metals at the same time at the customer's request, and analyze different unusual metal alloys according to the customer's working grades,” the researcher further said.

He went on to say that the capability to separate different grades from one another is among other advantages of the locally manufactured quantometer, adding, “Accurate analysis and measuring of the weight concentration of elements in different ferrous and non-ferrous samples, quick identification and separation of samples without the need to prepare samples or cut the pieces into smaller pieces, the capability to be carried on a cart with it argon capsule and all its accessories, the capability to simultaneously measure UV elements such as carbon, sulfur, phosphorus in optics, the capability to define a specific sample for quick analysis comparison with the capability to display the matching percentage, the installation of a cable for ease of moving and controlling the probe, and the capability to change analysis programs are among the other features of this device.”

The 11th Laboratory Material and Equipment Exhibition of Iran is going to be held from January 2th to 5th, 2024, according to the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy. The event will be held in different sections such as oil and petrochemical, electronics and software and simulators, civil engineering and construction, mechanics, chemistry and metallurgy, agriculture and environment, basic physics, general laboratory equipment, laboratory materials, medical engineering and biomaterials, scaffolding services, calibration services, and educational and laboratory equipment.
