Deputy Minister: Production of Knowledge in Medical Sciences in Iran to Raise to 7.74% by 2028
“This number is almost the same compared to Turkey, but the predictions made for some countries in the Persian Gulf region show an approximate figure of over 11%. It is expected that the health system activists in Iran will provide solutions to increase the process of scientific acceleration,” Panahi said.
He described monitoring and clarifying the current position of medical sciences in Iran as important in having a real perspective of the future, and said, “The trend of science production in medical sciences area and comparing it with the regional countries and special states, production of articles in Q1 journals and production of 10% of articles in the top journals, etc. are among the criteria that should be assessed and studied.”
Panahi said that at present, the average difference in science production is about 6 percent, while in 2000, the average difference in the science production index was 117, adding, “The comparative analysis of scientific productions with special countries of the world shows that the difference between our productions in the science production field and the leading countries like the Netherlands, Germany, the US, Canada, and China has been greatly reduced in the period between 2000 to 2021.”
He stated that predictions show that production trend of the number of articles by the Iranian scientists in the top 10% journals will be 6.1% in 2028 and the production trend of the number of articles in Q1 magazines indicates 6.52% in the same year.
Studies show that Iran enters the year 2022 with the 15th rank in science production worldwide and it is expected to make progress over the next years as the coronavirus pandemic is going to ease.
A country’s scientific products are a collection of research, articles, citations, international collaborations, activities of researchers, educational and research institutions of a country.
In reviewing scientific products, various indicators such as publication of articles in prestigious international journals, citations, validity of journals, the level of productivity, and scientific impact of scientists are considered quantitatively and qualitatively.
According to the latest information on science production, Iran is ranked 15th in the world in the international system of Web of Science in 2021, with an h-index of 383, which indicates the quality of Iranian articles registered.
