Nanotechnology Helps Iranian Scientists to Remove Seed Contamination, Disinfect Food
“In agriculture and food, the cold plasma generating system deactivates enzymes, removes microbial contamination from seeds, and disinfects food before packaging,” Farid Jamali, the head of the research center for advanced level engineering and nanomaterials of the Islamic Azad University’s Ahvaz branch, told ANA on the sidelines of the 14th International Nanotechnology Exhibition in Tehran.
“This system increases the shelf life of agricultural products and food which is one of the new and emerging applications of cold plasma systems,” he added.
Noting that the cold plasma generator system enjoys the ability to affect various surfaces like polymer, fabric, metal, glass, etc., Jamali stated, “Changing the level of hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of the surfaces, changing the surface roughness, and functionalizing the surfaces are among the applications of this system.”
He added that the cold plasma generator system in agriculture and food, deactivates enzymes, removes microbial contamination from grain and seeds, and disinfects food before packaging.
“Simple and easy use, high safety and low energy consumption, the possibility of changing the voltage and frequency of the produced plasma, and stable and continuous operation are among the important features of the cold plasma generator system,” Jamali said.
The 14th International Nano Exhibition kicked off in Tehran on November 4 and ended on November 7 in the presence of companies active in the nanotechnology field.
As the biggest nano event in Iran, the 4-day exhibition was an opportunity to get to know about the latest achievements and developments in the field of nanotechnology.
Dozens of nanotechnological companies were present at this year's nano exhibition in various fields like oil and energy, health and health, water and environment, agriculture and packaging, automobile, paint and coating, construction, textiles, and advanced materials, and they are displaying their achievements.
The exhibition provided a suitable opportunity for technological cooperation between startups and activists of the country's innovation ecosystem in the way of commercialization of products.
