Behrouz Zarei, a professor of Tarbiat Modares University said in an interview with Iranian media that the production of useful drinks is one of his research achievements. “This drink is produced using spirulina algae extract and its formulation is such that it is also suitable even for people suffering from diabetes or vascular diseases.

“We produced spirulina algae powder for this purpose,” he said, explaining more that, “Preparation of powder by drying method causes the loss of 40 to 50% of useful compounds, but we produced spirulina algae powder in a way that Its components will remain in the final product.”

Zarei stated that this powder can be combined with liquids such as water or cinnamon, adding, “The drink produced from this powder has energy-generating properties.”

Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that grows in both salt and fresh water. It is highly nutritious and a great source of protein, copper, and B vitamins. It is mostly found in Africa, Asia, South America and Central America. Today, spirulina is mostly used as a food supplement in the pharmaceutical industry (in the form of tablets or powder).

Spirulina is considered an ideal food and a high-quality pharmaceutical source due to its high content of protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, beta-carotene and sugars.
