Iranian Researcher’s Book on 99-Day Trip to Antarctica Unveiled
The book named ‘Journey to Antarctica; the Icy Continent’ has been written by Mohammad Reza Shokri, a faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University.
The book is a 99-day report of the first Iranian researcher's trip to the Antarctic continent.
Shokri along with a group of Indian marine researchers launched a research trip to the South Pole. The trip took place in line with marine scientific and regional cooperation between Iran and the Oceanography Center of India.
The researchers carried out studies on environment of the South Pole and the animals leaving in the region.
Antarctica, the southernmost continent and site of the South Pole, is a virtually uninhabited and ice-covered landmass.
Most cruises to the continent visit the Antarctic Peninsula, which stretches toward South America. It’s known for the Lemaire Channel and Paradise Harbor, striking, iceberg-flanked passageways, and Port Lockroy, a former British research station turned museum.
The peninsula’s isolated terrain also shelters rich wildlife, including many penguins.
