Salari announced the company's plans to accelerate implementation of heating oil quality improvement projects in all refineries of the country by using the expertise of the Iranian knowledge-based companies.

“At present, we have reached the heights of technical know-how to improve the quality of fuel oil and we plan to implement this project in other refineries of the country after implementing this plan in refineries with low capacity,” he added.

“To acquire the know-how, we decided to indigenize the expertise of coke production with the support of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), and we have now possessed the technical know-how in collaboration with Shazand oil refinery and RIPI and the value chain of this sector was completed,” Salari said.

Elsewhere, he also noted that Iran is currently producing sponge and needle coke.

In relevant remarks in August, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for Technology and Research Engineering Vahid Reza Zeydifar had also said that knowledge-based companies are active in 21 oilfields of the country.

“We are cooperating with the knowledge-based companies in 21 oilfields,” Zeydifar said, adding that the 80 percent dependency on foreign parts and equipment in Iran’s oil industry in the past has now reached to 20-30 percent.

He added that the oil ministry has signed nearly $340 million worth of contracts with competent knowledge-based companies to materialize its objectives in manufacturing parts in the relevant field.

Zeydifar stated that the oil ministry has also inked 81 contracts with different academic centers and research centers.

He also referred to the exports of home-made oil industry parts and equipment, and said 2.7 million oil industry parts and equipment developed by the knowledge-based companies have been sent to Venezuela.

The ministry has also exported catalyst to Venezuela, Zeydifar said, adding that a work group has been set up at the oil ministry for the exports of technical and engineering services.
