Iranian Inventor Wins IFIA Gold Medal for Knowledge-Based Product
Mehdi Moharrampour, the director of the Islamic Azad University (IAU)- Boueen Zahra Branch’s Growth Center was awarded a gold medal at the third International Invention and Innovation Competition for International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA) INV Members virtually held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 20 to 22 August 2023 for the INV members.
Moharrampour participated in the annual competition with his subsurface irrigation product (Fixed Discharge-Rate drip Irrigation Emitter Anti-Clogging Device).
As many as 1,500 inventors who are members of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA) INV competed in the online event.
The director of IAU Boueen Zahra Branch’s growth center, has three international patents in the field of irrigation, and has won several international and national awards for his inventions in the irrigation and agriculture field.
All Moharrampur's inventions that have been achieved with the support and investment of IAU Boueen Zahra university are now in industrial production phase.
Given the high performance of the manufactured products compared to foreign equivalents, they have received bids from international companies for cooperation and representation, and so far companies from the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Germany and Iraq have been granted sales representatives.
The manufactured products are among the few emitters licensed by the Iranian Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (IAERI), and free loans are granted to farmers.
Reza Sh’abannejad, president of the IAU Boueen Zahra Branch told ANA that the university will continue to support researchers to produce their strategic knowledge-based products.
Moreover, Moharrampour, the head of IAU Boueen Zahra Branch’s growth center and the executive director of the smart subsurface irrigation system, told ANA that the design and production of the system is the result of years of research by the professors and students at the growth center of that IAU branch.
The inventor said that the researcher at the IAU growth center have spared no efforts to discover methods for reducing water consumption.
He added that the mass production of the emitter has now begun, adding, “Among its advantages are a 70% decrease in water consumption, a 60% decrease in energy consumption, and a 50% decrease in fertilizer consumption in agricultural fields.”
The inventor further asserted that the device has successfully passed its experimental stages in several agricultural fields and in five hectares of tree-planted area which are located in front of the IAU university.
