Official: 80% Of Pharmaceutical Research in Iran Innovative

Iran’s Deputy Health Minister for Technology and Research Yunes Panahi said at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of "Pharmex" exhibition and the 22nd annual conference of the Iranian Pharmacists Association that around 80 percent of pharmaceutical researches in the coutry is innovative. 

‘Currently, there are 8,731 knowledge-based companies in the country, of which 1,303 companies are operating in the health field. Some 40% of these activities take place in the field of producing pharmaceutical raw material and 28% in the field of producing [medical] applicable equipment,” the official said.

He said that the health ministry figures showed that a significant portion (28%) of Iranian researchers, who are among the world's 1% scientists, are pharmacists.

“Currently, there are about 800 research centers in the country, of which about 52 centers operate only in the field of medicine. Basic and applied researches are being done in these centers and more than 80% of the researches is attributed to innovation and technology,” the deputy health minister further noted.

Panahai further called for intensified efforts to maintain and increase the country’s rankings on the international stage.
