Sahar Rajabi-Moghadam, director of the research group of Passive Radiation Defense research group of Islamic Azad University (IAU)-Central Tehran Branch told ANA that the radiology research center of this university has seven research cores, one of which is the research group of Passive Radiation Defense.

“Iran has various nuclear facilities and sites in different parts of the country; although the probability of accidents in these centers is very low, research and check is necessary on such possible incidents, and in this regard, the Passive Radiation Defense research group is conducting various studies,” the IAU researcher said.

She, who has a Ph.D in nuclear engineering, added, “The specialized field of study of this group is focusing on surveying, doing research and studies on the appropriate methods, solutions and tools in order to deal with or prevent radiative accidents. Therefore, the most important special task of the group is the use and analysis of past events using the methodology of future research to avoid repetition and the feasibility of possible events in similar cases in the future.”

“The newly-formed Passive Radiation Defense research group is now conducting various researches in the field of radiative protection. For example, in the field of spreading radioactive materials and the codes that have been launched in this field, the group has defined various projects in line with the students' activities,” Rajabi Moghadam concluded.

She further called for more support for researchers to help the society and also to commercialize their projects.
