Iran Records 10% Growth in Steel Production in Spring
Iran Steel Producers Association (ISPA) published the country's steel production statistics for the first quarter of 1402 (beginning on March 21, 2023). According to the data, the country's steel production during that period was 9.474 million tons, indicating a growth of 10.5% compared to the same period last year.
In the first quarter of this year, the total production of steel products grew by 5%, the data further showed. The total production of steel products in the first quarter of this year was 5.957 million tons. The production of sponge iron grew by 8.2%, the figures further showed.
In the first quarter of 1402, 3.413 million tons of long products and 2.543 million tons of flat products were produced in the country, showing 3.8% and 9.0% increase in those two categories, respectively.
Long steel products are made from “blooms” or “billets” and include rods, bars/coil sections, wire, reinforcing, nails and small diameter seamless pipes. Flat steel products are made from steel slabs and include plate, strip, hollow sections, large diameter welded pipe and structural beams.
Rebar production in first quarter of this year was 2.775 million tons, which shows an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year. The production of iron beams was registered to be 397,000 tons, indicating an increase of 2.22%. The country's hot sheet production in the first quarter of this year was 2.465 million tons, which shows an increase of 6.0% compared to the same period last year. The amount of production of cold sheet grew by 5.6% and coated sheet also increased by 1.11%, the ISPA figures further indicated.
Sponge iron makers produced 9.971 million tons of the product in the first quarter of 1402, which shows an 8.2% growth compared to the same period last year.
