Electro Optic Sairan Industries Company (SAPA) is active in the field of producing optical lenses, inspecting systems, medical equipment, airplane windows, and sunglasses benefiting from nanotechnology, said Milani, the managing director of the company.

Because they are typically transparent, nanocoatings are useful in applications where opacity would be a problem. For example, certain nanocoatings can make windows resistant to heat and UV rays.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of the 13th International Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition, which was held in Tehran on October 1 to 4.

Over 1,200 homegrown products from 324 manufacturers were displayed in the exhibition.

Nanostructured coatings have great potential for improving the success of dental implants. However, several complications can occur leading to implant failure.

This happens when bacteria accumulate on the implant surface inducing local inflammation. This can then lead to bone degradation and removal of the infected implant.

In thermographic cameras, nanocoating can improve the quality of pictures.

Nanotechnology transforms water droplets into an ultra-thin water film immediately upon impact. This ensures the highest image quality in rain and difficult external conditions.

Referring to the use of nanocoating in aerospace industries, Milani said nanoparticles make airplane window glasses repel water and prevent ice from forming.

In sunglasses, the protective film of a nanocoating keeps UV light from making plastics porous and colors from fading.

Fortunately, the knowledge-based company has succeeded in exporting its products, including medical equipment, thermographic cameras, and airplane window glasses to the global market.

The expansion of nanotechnology export programs in recent years and the establishment of bases for exporting nanoproducts to China, India, Indonesia, Syria, Turkey, and Iraq have provided the opportunity for the entry of Iranian nanotechnology goods, equipment, and services into global markets.

Some 270 companies are active in the nanotechnology field and it is predicted that their revenue will reach up to 80 trillion rials (nearly $310 million), former Vice President for Science and Technology, Sorena Sattari, said.

Currently, nanotech products are produced and marketed in more than 15 industrial fields based on domestic technologies and are being exported to 49 countries from five continents.
