"Enriching fertilizers using algae will improve agricultural soil both in quality and quantity," Hamid Donyaee Daryan, a member of the board of directors of Parsian Algae Products Company, told ANA.

"In order to help photosynthesis in plants and transfer nutrients it is required to enrich the soil," he said, adding that enriching the soil also helps remove imbalance between nutrients and regulation of water absorption as well.

Potassium is not only an essential plant nutrient, but it is also a modifier that can improve plant resistance against water shortage and frostbite and improves the photosynthesis process.

Algae are the first chain of supply and the most nutrient source of food in the world. Algae have proven to be a reliable and promising source of protein. Some algae can consist of up to 70 percent protein.

It contains the most and the highest amount of protein including beta carotene, so its beta carotene content is ten times more effective than common beta carotene in fighting cancers.

Algae are also used in feeding poultry and livestock, improving the quality of their meats. They are used as well in the food industry as supplements, as a source of energy in fertilizers, in producing hydrogen, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and hygiene products, in curbing pollutants, and in wastewater treatment plants.

Donyaee Daryan went on to say that some 35 job opportunities have been created in Parsian Algae Products Company.

He added that the process of soil enrichment is done at a much lower cost for domestic users than those who use foreign samples.

Moreover, the project has led to a significant saving of foreign currency and we are negotiating to export the services to other countries, he concluded.

During the past year, in order to realize a resilient and knowledge-based economy, a series of activities have been carried out to further develop the ecosystem of innovation and technology in the country.

Attracting the participation of relevant ministries, approving and quickly implementing the law on the surge of knowledge-based production, and expanding the activities related to the law on the protection of knowledge-based companies and institutions were among the activities.

More than 7,000 knowledge-based companies have so far been registered and are now operating across the country.

The companies are mainly active in the fields of biotechnology, agriculture, food, steel, gas, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, oil, electronics, telecommunications, information technology, and computer.

New approaches have been taken to support knowledge-based companies both in terms of quality and quantity in line with realizing the goal of a knowledge-based economy.
