Advanced Laboratory in Iran Improves Quality of Paraffin with Efficient Tests

TEHRAN (ANA)- A laboratory in Iran, which is an active member of the strategic technologies laboratory network of the country, has paved the ground for improving the quality of paraffin by providing a variety of test services.

“The laboratory enjoys measuring equipment to determine the oil percentage, needle and cone permeability, viscous bath at temperatures of 40 and 100 degrees Celsius, melting point for paraffin and petrolatum, pour point and ignition point, and ash in the Iran-made and foreign brands,” Kobra Qassemi said.

She added that the laboratory enjoys all equipment and tests related to production of industrial solid paraffin, industrial liquid paraffin and industrial vaseline tests, and provides product-oriented and test-oriented services to paraffin production units, provincial standard departments, and customs offices in a specialized way.

Noting that the laboratory conducts the atmospheric distillation test based on the ASTM D 86 method, Qassemi stated, “It conducts the test on all petroleum products.”

She pointed to the production of one of the industrial materials required by refineries, and said, “The laboratory has succeeded in production of white Iso-recycle which is used as a by-product of Isomax unit in all refineries of Iran and it is applied for the production of cosmetic products which contain vaseline and paraffin.”

Last year, a senior Iranian official announced plans to establish an integrated national laboratory network in the country.

Yaqoub Fat'hollahi referred to the creation of scattered laboratory networks by the Iranian government, including the Science Ministry and the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, and underlined the need for the establishment of an integrated national laboratory network.

“Laboratory capacity for scientific research has been created in the country and they work in the form of specialized or national laboratories, and each of these laboratories individually provides services to specialists and researchers,” he said.

Fat'hollahi said that creation of a national laboratory network was proposed to increase laboratory capacities, both in the form of individual laboratories and networks, and integrate the country's laboratories.

“Launching this national network does not mean stopping the activities of other networks, and all laboratory networks should continue to work, and the national network should also be launched with preparations and plans at the national level and with a national and transnational vision to serve all scientists in the Islamic world,” he stressed.
