Iranian Technologists Produce Laser Tracker Device, CMM for Different Industries

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers at an Iranian technological company have successfully reverse engineered an American laser tracker system and a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) device to facilitate processing of large cast and steel components.

“The device performs 3D measurement, and its accuracy is 0.01 of its initial error. For every meter that the laser tracker device moves, 0.05 or 0.07 are added to its accuracy compared to the mobalization,” Mehdi Sarayee, the sales manager of ‘Petro Gostar’ company told ANA on the sidelines of the Asr-e Omid Sirjan exhibition where he presented the laser tracker device that they produced in their company.

“Now we have two devices. One can cover an area with a radius of 40 meters and the other up to a radius of 20 meters. For each laser station according to the equipment we have; if the length of the device is longer than 40 meters, the length of the device can be increased by moving the laser tracker device and placing the reference form of the length,” he added.

The sales manager of Petro Gostar company, which is based at Islamic Azad University's Arak branch in Markazi Province, also said, “As it is clear from the name of the laser tracker device, it follows the camera and is one of the portable CMMs, which is equipped with a ball that the laser follows it. This measuring could be done with geometric tolerances.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Sarayee also pointed to the other product they maded dubbed arm CMM device, adding, “The device measures an area with up to a radius of 1.2 meter. The device is fixed using the basis it has. The probe is on the device and with eight microns (below a cent) can no longer be changed.

“This CMM device has broad uses and it can be used in the field of reverse engineering. Users can utilize both laser tracker and CMM devices when they want to install a structure or equipment somewhere,” the researcher continued.

“The CMM device is used for measuring, placing and equipping any device and structure such as machining services, instalment of devices, and in heavy industries such as oil, gas and steel,” Saraei further explained.

In response to the question whether the laser tracker or CMM machine have internal and external equivalents, he said, “The laser tracker is not domestically produced in Iran while the device is designed and manufactured by three American companies (API, FARO, ELAIKA), of which they have worked with API model and that is used in industries [in Iran].”

He also said about the mobile mapping camera device that it is placed on the X and Y axes, and is used in civil engineering and construction industries.

Saraei explained that the laser tracker device measures three-dimensionally in X.Y.Z axes and is used in the mechanical and metrology fields.

The Petro Gostar sales manager further said that they have sold their laser tracker device to Mobarake Steel Company after signing a contract to adjust their rolling and casting machines.

Saraei further said that the CMM and laser tracker devices are used for crushing drums of copper stones and adjusting the rotating drum of cement or copper. He added that drum can be horizontal and not inclined.

He went on to note that the CMM device manufactured by their company are under the API trademark adding it acts as a portable measurement machine and is capable of giving you the size of the equipment with high accuracy.

Asr-e Omid (Age of Hope) exhibition was held on the campus of Islamic Azad University-Sirjan branch in the city of Sirjan located in the Southeastern Kerman Province on May 22-June 1, 2023.
