Hossein Ostadi Sefidan, a cardiothoracic doctor, who is specialized in operating on the heart, lungs, and other thoracic (chest) organs, performed the surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery is one of the most common minimally invasive surgical strategies.

One of the main difficulties in laparoscopic surgery is a restriction of the free movement of the forceps because of a lack of degrees of freedom.

Recently, many master-slave manipulators have been used to solve the difficulties in laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon manipulates the master arm. The slave arm motion is controlled at the same or reduced scale of motion as the master arm.

With regard to the needs of the target society, the first master-slave combined laparoscopic surgery was implemented on a patient who was suffering from obesity, Monireh Bazlipour, the person in charge of the operating room at Imam Sajjad Hospital of Tabriz told ANA.

More than 2,400 obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, genitourinary, otorhinolaryngology, and maxillofacial surgeries have been conducted at the hospital over the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year which stated on March 21, she added.
